Thirunelli Temple Wayanad

Thirunelli is a small forest village in Wayanad district around 32 Kilometers from Mananathavady. Thirunelli is well known for its Perumal (Lord Vishnu)temple, which  is located in a virgin green area in the legs of Brahmagairi peaks
Thiru nelly in local language (Malayalam) stands for Holy(Thiru) Gooseberry(Nelli)(Indian Gooseberry tree/Amla)

Papanasini  (The stream which washes away your sins)


Papa nasini is a small forest stream originating from the deep cleanliness of Brahmagiri hills and flows down through the roots and leaves of ancient trees and medicinal shrubs and emerges out from the forest about 1KM down the temple
As per the legends Lord Visnu made all the waters around the temple pure and gifted of washing away all the sins
A total dip in this holy soak makes you free from all the sins committed in a life time
This stream flows down further and transmutes in to river Kalindi

Route to thirunelly (how to reach thirunelly)

 

Nearby towns to Thirunelly is Mananthavady in Kerala and Kutta in Karnataka
The drive to Thirunelly from both towns passes through part of Tholpetty and meets at a Y junction at Thettu Road (The road to deviate from)
In this intersection is the famed "Jungle view " shop, an indigenous tea shop famous for 'Unni appam" a sweet rice coconut cake
There is noticeable sign boards guiding to the temple and the place in between is Appapara
There are lots of buses plying between Manathavady and thirunelly and if you are coming from Kutta ,you have to take Kutta-manathvady bus and get down at the jungle view tea shop junction to catch Thirunelly bus from there
